1 Samuel 1-3 Reflection:

what's standing out to me in today's new testament reading is we are being told. Relax and trust in the Lord put all your eggs in his 1 basket. He is great and powerful. His will is to live in you and you have full life everlasting. We are to put aside our own wants and desires and seek first the lord and his kingdom. He provides everything. If he makes sure the birds have food why wouldn't he make sure your well cared for in abundance. Trust the lord always and lean on him. Trust he has your back as much in the dark days as he does when they are full of light.

In this chapter I see that Elkanah having two wives and one of them being referred to as a rival meant that these women weren't really ok with polygamy and were jealous of one another for one reason or another. Although Penninah had children, Hannah's womb was closed. But Elkanah appeared to love her more despite this because he gave her a double portion. Penninah obviously bullies her being barren but Hannah was very humble and faithful to the Lord. The Lord remembered her faithfulness and dedication to Him so He opened her womb after she prayed to Him without ceasing for a son. Thus Samuel was born. Hannah immediately dedicated him to the Lord in gratitude. Her prayer of petition was heard and honored. I look at my baby Eden and feel similar to Hannah. Although my womb was not closed so to speak, I experienced much loss which is suffering just like he had to endure bullying from her rival. The adversary, Satan bullied me and tried to destroy my faith through these tragedies. But they were trials meant to be overcome and strengthen my faith and through choosing to remain faithful to the Lord and be an obedient servant I was rewarded just as Hannah was. I already had 2 beautiful daughters but after them I experienced some very heart-rending losses that left me questioning my faith. In crisis God reached out to me and I drew nearer to Him and He rewarded my obedience with my 3rd daughter I get to hold in my arms, rightfully named Eden Reign. It is very interesting because I found a baby onesie with these passages of Scripture prior to giving birth to this little miracle.
