Ruth 1-4 Reflection:

No kings only judges serve to deliver Israel as they continuously do evil in the sight of the Lord. During a famine in the land a man of Bethlehem journeyed to the country of Moab to escape the famine. His wife was Naomi and her daughter in laws were Orpah and Ruth. Naomi's husband died and then later her 2 sons passed away. She was lonely but tried to send away Orpah and Naomi because they were headed to the land of Judah. Ruth refused to leave Naomi's side. They even traveled to Bethlehem together. Naomi blames God for the losses she experienced and believes she deserves the calamity she faced. When they arrive there, Ruth goes to the fields of grain for gleanings (this is believed for the poor to accept this bare minimum of grain quality) and shows how humble she is. Boaz owns the very field she is harvesting from and being related to her mother in law's husband he knew much about Ruth and when he saw her he remembered her loyalty and kindness expressed to Naomi and sought her favor. Boaz commands his servants to allow her to harvest the best of the sheaves if she pleases and then some to repay her for her kind actions. She humbled herself and even lay at his feet and was submissive and asked to serve him to repay his kindness and he was impressed with her humility and grace. Boaz marries Ruth as her "redeemer." Together they have a son named Obed. He was the father of Jesse and Jesse fathered David. Yes that David! What an impressive genealogy even though they had so many mistakes they made throughout their lifetime.
