Judges 20-21 Reflection:

In the previous chapter a levite in Gibeah murdered his concubine after she was raped and tormented by the men of the city in Gibeah because the levite offered her up to them. Then he brutally killed her by dismemberment in 12 pieces which he then scattered across the territory of Israel. Did he choose 12 pieces for each tribe to insult them? All of the chiefs of the 12 tribes of Israel heard of this crime and gathered to meet. Gibeah was of the tribe of Benjamin so this caused a war against that tribe from the rest of Israel. The Lord honored this and even sent Judah first to deal harshly with the tribe of Benjamin for this evil act. It wasn't until the 3rd battle that the tribe of Benjamin was defeated. They fought back successfully against the whole of Israel before the 3rd fight when the Lord himself vowed to deliver them into Israel's hands. Once more there were no kings in Israel, everyone did was right in his own eyes. Order needs to be restored.
