Joshua 21-22 Reflection:
Although the tribe of Levi was mot given mass tracts of lands to inherit, they were given pasturelands and neighboring cities which is fitting because they are the ones preparing and cleaning up the animal sacrifices. Shortly after everyone had been given the land the Lord promised to each tribe, an altar was built by the Eastern tribes of Israel. This was unauthorized for worship, and considered an act of rebellion against the Lord. This altar was not commanded of the Lord. The Eastern tribes gathered to speak their peace and claimed rather boldly to the rest of the congregation of Israel that the altar serves as a witness NOT suited for sacrifice or worship. This was instead a worthy tribute and memorial to represent the covenant between God and Israel. It was pleasing to them so they no longer wished to wage war over what they assumed was dishonoring the Lord. I'm relieved to read that they all were diplomatic in this situation, it could have led to alot of fear and unnecessary bloodshed and not for atonement either.
