1 Samuel 19-21 Reflection:
In earlier readings we learned the Lord regretted anointing Saul as King of Israel and planned a "man after His own heart" named David to replace Saul. If you don't use it you'll lose it. Don't take your gifts and calling for granted. Saul sought to kill David, but his son Johnathan was friends with David so he warned him ahead of time. He pleaded to his father to spare him and reminded him that David had slain Goliath when all others were afraid and King Saul honored it. Once more he sent David into war and he fought mightily. Saul later attempted to skewer David with a spear while he was playing his lyre but he escaped. He tried to also ambush him in the morning at his home but once more David was warned ahead of time, this time his wife told him to run. While he was gone she set up the fake body in the bed routine and tricked Saul's messenger and claimed he was sick. But Saul persisted and relentlessly pursued David until David ran to Samuel.
