1 Samuel 10-12 Reflection:
Today we view kings as wealthy men with strong warriors to fight their battles and that they really can just control others to do whatever they want if a people are subject to them. I learned recently in my family history that some kings were really rebellious and stuck in their ways and whatever their way was would be the peoples ways. In Scripture the Lord views a king of their people as a "prince of his heritage." This a very respected position and should be not be taken lightly especially with the decision making. In Israel the Lord appointed/anointed the kings over the people. Saul began as a just king and even had his people bargain peace and treaties with their enemies instead of just being a ruthless conqueror but when they resisted that is when he would take action and rise against them with the might of the Lord.
