1 Samuel 4-6 Reflection:

In today's reading the Ark of the Covenant has been captured by the Philistine army. 30k soldiers of Israel fell in battle. There was so much tragic loss that Phinehas's wife was shocked into labor and gave birth to a son she named Ichabod (for the Glory of God has departed Israel) and she also died giving birth. So much tragedy befell Israel. The Philistines had the gall to take their trophy of war that was the Ark of God and set it alongside their god Dagon. But the Lord God is a jealous God and Him being the Almighty, even Dagon bowed to Him. The statue was found knocked over on it's face facing the Ark. They set it back up and the next morning it happened again. The statues head was cut off and the rest dismembered the second time around. The people responsible for placing the two side by side in Ashdod were afflicted by God with tumors as punishment. Those people tried to send it to other cities to be spared more calamity but every city suffered until they finally decided to return it to Israel. God will not be mocked nor will He have any other idols before Him and here is Biblical proof.
